Abstract

Purpose: Knowledge-based leadership helps organizations reduce conflicts in workplace relationships by using coordination, and improves innovation capabilities. Therefore, according to the importance of the topic, the current research was conducted with the aim of investigating the impact of knowledge-oriented leadership on innovation capabilities with the role of mediating coordination and relationship conflict.
Design/ methodology/ approach:  This research is based on an applied purpose and is descriptive survey in terms of method. The respondent population of this research was 120 experts from knowledge-based organizations active in the Science and Technology Park of Lorestan Province, of whom 92 were selected as a sample using the Morgan table by simple random sampling. A standard questionnaire was used to collect research data. Thus, to measure knowledge-based leadership, the Vitella questionnaire, the Tominen and Hivonen innovativeness questionnaire, the Hoy and Simsek coordination questionnaire, and the John and Manx conflict questionnaire were used. Also, for all items of the questionnaire, a five-choice Likert scale is used, which starts with completely disagree and ends with completely agree, and how the questions are scored from one to five. Regarding the analysis method and software used in this study, it is necessary to explain that SPSS software and Cronbach's alpha were used to examine and test the normality of the data and measure the reliability of the data collection tool. Smart PLS software was also used to measure the convergent and divergent validity of the questionnaire and test the research hypotheses. Content validity, convergent validity, and divergent validity were used to confirm the validity of the measurement tool. Content validity was achieved by ensuring consistency between measurement indicators and existing literature. Convergent validity means that the components of each construct have a moderate correlation with each other. Also, in this study, two criteria, composite reliability coefficient and Cronbach's alpha coefficient of Fornell and Larker, were used to determine the reliability of the questionnaire. Since the Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the variables is higher than 0.7, the reliability of the questionnaire can be stated appropriately.
Research Findings: The results of the data show that knowledge-oriented leadership has a positive and significant effect on innovation capabilities, both directly and through the mediating variables of relationship coordination and conflict. Therefore, as a general conclusion, it should be stated that knowledge-based leadership creates coordination and thereby strengthens innovation capabilities.
Limitations & Consequences: The limited research related to the present study has been one of the most important limitations of this study. Also, a review of the existing literature shows the lack of qualitative and exploratory research on the subject of the present study, which is needed to conduct qualitative research to examine how to encourage managers to adapt to knowledge-based leadership in order to understand the subject more accurately.
Practical Consequences: Also, regarding the practical application of the research, it should be said that if knowledge-based managers advise and guide people on the path to knowledge, as well as share and integrate information, they can help create knowledge management mechanisms and provide the necessary conditions for developing and encouraging innovation goals in companies, which in turn will create coordination and strengthen innovation capabilities and reduce relationship conflict. In other words, by identifying the relationship between knowledge-based leadership and innovation capability, this research can help managers make better use of the potential and actual capacities of the elements mentioned in knowledge-based leadership. The findings of this research can also have a positive impact on managers' attitudes towards using this capability so that they can use knowledge-based leadership for the progress of their organizations.
Innovation or value of the Article: Regarding the innovative aspect of the research, it should be said that previous research has examined the effect of knowledge-based leadership on innovation performance, and its results have only suggested the positive effect of knowledge management on innovation. So far, none of the existing research, like the present study, has examined the effect of knowledge-based leadership on innovation capabilities with the two mediating roles of coordination and conflict in the relationship.
