The Effect of Ostracism at Workplace on Employees' Creative Behavior with Emphasis on the Role of Thriving, Job Engagement and Organization-based Self-esteem

Abstract

Purpose: The present study was done with aim of examining effect of ostracism at workplace on employees' creative behavior with emphasis on the role of thriving, job engagement and organization-based self-esteem in Shiraz University of Medical Sciences.

Design/ methodology/ approach: The present study was practical in terms of purpose and descriptive-survey in terms of data collection. statistical population of present study was headquarters staff of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (400 people), that 196 people were selected through simple random sampling. tool for collecting data in this research was standard questionnaires and analysis method used was the structural equation modeling technique.

Research Findings: The findings of research showed that ostracism at workplace has a negative and significant relationship with job engagement and thriving at work; Also, relationship of job engagement with thriving at work and employees' creative behavior; and relationship between thriving at work and employees' creative behavior was also confirmed. Also, thriving at work and job engagement in relationship between ostracism at workplace and employees' creative behavior; and employee engagement in relationship between workplace ostracism and thriving at work; Finally, thriving at work play a mediating role in relationship between job engagement and employees' creative behavior.

Limitations & Consequences: The impossibility of generalizing results of research to all societies and use of questionnaire tools to measure people's attitudes were among limitations of this research.

Practical Consequences: The results of this research showed that ostracism at workplace is a great threat to employees' sense of thriving and job engagement and will have negative consequences for employees' creative behavior. Nevertheless, the managers of organization can reduce the negative effects of ostracism on employees' creative behavior by strengthening the feeling of thriving and job engagement.
